ABOUT TAKE OFF YOUR
CLOTHES
I have deconstructed and repurposed garments for
over three years. I taught myself to sew through thrift-store clothing and
my first collection, "Slaughterhouse," was showcased in the Duchess County
Arts Festival in Spring 2006. In June 2006 I launched my label Take Off
Your Clothes and online store. I used second-hand materials to produce the accessories
and took night classes at the Austin School of Fashion Design (Texas) in
draping and garment construction.
After earning a bachelor's degree
in anthropolgy from Vassar College, I began my associate's degree in
fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, learning the
construction, design, and business perspectives of the fashion industry.
During the summer of 2008, I interned at Parachute Studios and consulted
on patternmaking and production, while learning screenprinting and
independent business development. In 2009 I graduated from FIT and
interned for designers Rebecca Turbow and Slow and Steady Wins the Race, where I directly assisted in design, patternmaking, and
samplemaking.
Currently I am finishing a deconstructed and
recycled t-shirt and dress line to be sold in Brooklyn
boutiques.
